Effective Teaching

What does the classroom of an effective teacher look like, sound like and feel like?

If you were to enter the classroom of an effective teacher, you would very likely see a warm, bright and welcoming room full of students engaged in learning. It would be a classroom that reflected pride in effort and achievement. You might hear students engaged in an academic discussion, or informally sharing their ideas with one another. You might hear the teacher, or a student encouraging someone to take the next step. It would feel like a room full of energy, anticipation and excitement. It would feel like a room in which students feel safe to take a risk and try something outside of their comfort zone.

The classrooms of effective teachers may look, sound and feel a little different from teacher to teacher, but they are all rooms that students look forward to entering every day. They are rooms in which every student can reach his/her full potential. They are rooms that reflect the passion and dedication of effective teachers. There are many attributes and strategies that combine to make an effective teacher. The following material provides only some suggestions or guidelines for effective teaching.
